AURORA GOLD MINE
Client: Guyana Goldfields Inc..
GSEC undertook work over a one year period to establish the environmental baseline for a proposed gold mining operation at Aurora on the Cuyuni River. The work included the establishment of an automated weather station at the site, execution of biological sampling events at the mining concession to coincide with weather patterns in Guyana, installation of groundwater monitoring wells at the site, recovery of ground and surface water samples for analytical tests, visits to indigenous communities in the vicinity of the mining concession and periodic submission of environmental baseline updates to the client.
ENVIRONMENTAL BASELINE ASSESSMENT – CHEVRON TEXACO
Installed groundwater monitoring wells at several Texaco fuel stations in Guyana in accordance with RCRA groundwater monitoring well guidelines. Provided staff to ERM to support the Phase I and II assessment of each facility. Work included developing layout for each facility, sampling of monitoring wells and developing inferences on extent of site contamination, if present.
ENVIRONMENTAL ASSESSMENT – BERBICE RIVER BRIDGE APPROACHES
Client: DEVELOPMENT IDEAS INC./ Inter-American Development Bank
Conducted an environmental assessment that identified the environmental resources in the area contiguous to the approaches, which could be impacted by construction and operation of the proposed approaches.. The environmental impacts associated with construction and operation the approaches were identified and the costs of mitigating the environmental impacts were developed.
ENVIRONMENTAL AUDIT – OMAI GOLD MINES
Client: Omai Gold Mines and Guyana Environmental Protection Agency
Team member of group that performed environmental audit of Omai Gold Mines operations at Christianburg and Omai Mine site. Identified issues of concern, potential environmental impacts and remedial measures required.
ENVIRONMENTAL IMPACT ASSESSMENT – AMAILA FALLS HYDROELECTRIC PROJECT
Client: Synergy Holdings Inc. and HARZA International Development Company LLC
Performed an assessment to determine the environmental impacts associated with construction and operation of a hydroelectric plant at Amaila Falls located immediately downstream of the confluence of the Amaila and Kuribrong Rivers in west central Guyana. Developed methodology for sampling of physical, biological and social environments, conducted analysis to determine presence of contaminants in reservoir water and their impacts on water quality and developed detailed mitigation plans and costs estimates for mitigation of environmental impacts.
