Groundwater Hydrology

GROUND STRUCTURES ENGINEERING CONSULTANTS provides services in both groundwater and surface water hydrology. The need to balance future demands for water with current needs, and correlating those requirements with short- and long-term availability is an ever-present challenge. Our firm’s strength lies in its ability to look at the total groundwater and surface water resources of a region and to develop a rational approach to water use to ensure all needs are met with minimal environmental impact. Water resources consulting services offered by GROUND STRUCTURES include:

  • Environmental Impact Assessments
  • Groundwater Resource Investigations
  • Salt Water Intrusion Analyses
  • Contaminant Migration Studies
  • Computer Modeling of Groundwater Recovery and Recharge
  • Stormwater Management

Application of a wide range of numerical and analytical computer models is an integral part of water resources projects completed by GROUND STRUCTURES. The numerical models used include several Illinois State Water Survey (ISWS) models for groundwater flow and contaminant transport, and the United States Geological Surveys (USGS) MODFLOW and Method of Characteristics models for groundwater flow and solute transport. We have also developed several finite difference and finite element programs to address specific concerns such as the movement of air and gas through porous media.
